How Drones are Shaping the Future of Weddings
Imagine being able to relive your wedding day, from the arrival of the bridal cars, the first glimpse of you, the happy couple, the slow walk up to the venue, the wedding guests flooding out to celebrate your marriage as you emerge in a bustle of confetti, all against a picturesque backdrop.
Wedding videography and photography has expanded into new realms with the introduction of drone footage capabilities. Able to capture truly spectacular material, this high-tech equipment can document your special day in a unique and modern way. As professional drone pilots, we’ve got your aerial wedding needs covered!
Here, we share the benefits of having aerial film or photography during your special day.
Why a drone?
Drones are becoming increasingly popular, which is not surprising due to the breathtaking shots these flying machines can capture.

The modern way to capture weddings
Drones are able to capture key moments of the day from a different perspective. Whether it’s a loving moment between the bride and groom, or a photograph of a large group of guests from above. Being able to capture the venue, surroundings and guests, drones produce stunning footage and add a cinematic feel to a wedding video or photograph.
When hiring a regular photographer or video producer, quality and the right shots are of utmost importance. This also applies to hiring a drone pilot. The professionals who really know what they’re doing and how to best capture a couple are the ones that you should be looking for. There are no re-shoots so it’s vital that they are captured right first time.
It is also important to inform all guests of the drone plan, so they are not surprised when they see it flying above them!
As experienced drone wedding photographers, we take the time to understand who, what, when and where, ensuring that you receive the wedding video or photograph of your dreams.
Best moments to capture
The key factor when planning your drone wedding photography is to allow time to capture the event and carefully choose the moments you wish to be captured. An ideal moment to capture would be the ceremony and the reception whilst the guests are socialising. A prevailing drone wedding shot is to gather all the guests with the bride and groom in the centre whilst the drone ascends into the sky and captures the entire frame.
Are you tying the knot on a mountainside, beach, country manor house or another stunning location? An aerial snapshot is an amazing way to take full advantage of the space chosen and the day in one.
Drones are able to capture emotional and spectacular wedding moments that wouldn’t have been possible from the ground, including the engaged couple seeing each other for the first time with the guests in the background all in one shot!
Get creative with your wedding photography!
As well as the above ideas, you could do something truly unique if you put your mind to it. Here are some of our personal favourites.
- Gather your guests on the lawn to spell out words or shapes
- Capture the bridal car entrances
- Guests arriving
What you need to know
Drones, vows and speeches don’t go together because of the noise that the drones make. It’s best to talk to your drone pilot, guests and venue so that you can arrange when the drone needs to be grounded for the important bits.
Outdoor wedding venues with lots of space make the best venues for drones, but having said that, there are many drone pilots across the UK who have the skills and experience to fly indoors. We’ve flown our drone inside the church before the guests arrive, flying from the back to the altar, capturing the flowers and the features of the church.
