Isle of Wight Festival By Air
We were asked by Tangerine Fields who are a glamping company for festivals to film their camp-sites at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2015. The organisers were also happy for us to film the site prior to the gates opening and we were certainly blessed with a beautiful summer’s day.

What we wanted
We were keen to film the tents from various angles and heights and our drone gave us the versatility to do this. The different types of tents available were key to what we filmed and allowed us to show these off in their various shapes and sizes. For the festival site we wanted to give the viewer a true idea as to the size of the site and to highlight various areas of entertainment around the grounds.
How we achieved it
Starting at the glamping site we briefed the staff what we looking to do to ensure they stayed away from this area of the tents. We flew low down over the tents and then moved directly upwards, panning slowly to capture the tents in their set positions and the array of colours. Quite hypnotic when watching back! We were also keen to capture the size of the glamping site and the wide angle shots from up high were a great way to show this off. For the main site, we ensured our take-off and landing site were clear of any obstacles and site traffic (that had been briefed by us) and proceeded to capture some slow moving low to high shots of the various areas of the site. We filmed in a combination of 2K and 4K at 50fps and 25fps. We also used a ND 16 filter to help us combat the extremely bright day.
Challenges and how we overcame them
The aerial filming of the day presented us with a couple of challenges, the first being the sun and its position. We ensured that we filmed away from the sun and always checked and adjusted our camera settings before each new flight. The second challenge was the wind and when flying low down and rising up we had to be very aware of the slight changes in wind speed as we came up and over the top of the trees and the larger marquees. Not a huge negative but aware of this to maintain a smooth flight and pan.
