William Evans Gunmakers
Birds Eye View Productions were very excited to be commissioned by William Evans Gunmakers to create and produce a video about the experience of their clients from visiting their shop to be fitted out in shooting attire to being given instruction about their new gun. Being one of the better known gunmakers the access to the gun room and shooting attire we knew would create a visually stimulating video.

What we wanted
Designed to appeal to the values and interests of our client’s target clientele/demographic, the film was to portray a short narrative of their target customer, the urbane, professional on the lookout for inspired new challenges and the leisure time to fulfil them. Moving from the clientele’s initial inspiration to bag a brace or two, the presentation was created to take the viewer to the William Evans outlet/premises where there was the opportunity to purchase all the shooting related equipment one needs to rise to a new challenge. The video was to end our target customer out in the field, surrounded by the beauty, glory/majesty of the English countryside and being taken through the specifics of their new gun by a member of staff. Focused, relaxed — in their element.
How we achieved it
We worked very closely with the marketing team, whom we had a number of prior meetings to the actual shooting day. The first day of shooting was on St’ James Street in our clients Mayfair premises, where we filmed the actor arriving and being welcomed to the shop.
We wanted the film to have a very clean and shallow depth of field look to it, macro cinematography combined with stunning aerial vistas enhancing the look and match the brand of William Evans. We used motion stabilised camera systems to capture perfectly smooth walk through footage of the William Evans shop. Subtle action shots of the character of William Evans trying on attire etc. also helped to enhance the piece. The essence of the film was boutique shots which perfectly capture our client’s brand whilst at the same time holding a documentary element which takes the viewer on a journey through the experience of William Evans.
The shops both in London and Bisley gave us the macro content of the clothing and detail that we wanted to capture when purchasing William Evans attire.
We moved to Bisley Shooting Ground for the second day of shooting to capture the aerial shots and worked closely with the ground staff in ensuring we were not flying in zones where fellow club members were shooting. We were able to achieve the results we were after without worrying other club members and the accident of someone shooting the drone by mistake, all though we laughed with the staff as they thought it would have made great target practice with a difference!
Challenges and how we overcame them
The main challenge in the shops were the large number of mirrors, so we had to ensure the direction was carried out in a way to avoid the film crews reflections, so particular shots were run through first to check the payback etc. As for the aerial filming we had been in contact with the ground staff and were able to locate a suitable location to capture the types of shots that we were after.
